Take-Two Has Purchased Zynga for $12.7 Billion

Take-Two Interactive is best known as the parent company of Rockstar Games and 2K. This means that they own some of the most well-known series in gaming such as Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, and NBA 2K. The company is now looking to bring these franchises and more to mobile with their newly announced acquisition of Zynga for $12.7 billion.

During an investor meeting, Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick announced the deal before detailing potential plans for Take-Two-owned IPs on mobile. A slide was shown during a presentation that featured popular games such as Grand Theft Auto, Red Dead Redemption, Borderlands, Bioshock, and NBA 2K. These games were listed next to a caption that read “Opportunity to bring Take-Two’s console/PC properties to mobile & add new game modes.”

Max Payne, L.A. Noire, and Midnight Club were also listed but what makes this interesting is that none of those games have had a new entry in over a decade other than ports and remasters. Zelnick had this to say about the Zynga purchase: “We believe we have the best collection of console and PC intellectual property in the interactive entertainment business – and it’s basically nearly entirely un-exploited from mobile and free-to-play around the world.”

There are no official details about what franchises will receive mobile games or when.
